Ingredients

- 800 g crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried basil or 1 tablespoon fresh basil
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional)

Instructions

1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and mix well.
5. Season with sugar, salt, black pepper, basil, and oregano. Stir to combine.
6. Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
7. If using, add the balsamic vinegar and mix.
8. Serve immediately with pasta or let it cool and freeze for later use.
