recipe

A traditional Hungarian street food, perfect for a light snack. Lángos is a savory, yeast-leavened, deep-fried treat often enjoyed with garlic and salt.
Preparation Time: 2 hours
Serving Size: 4-6

Ingredients:

- 250 g fresh yeast
- 2.5 dl water
- 2 dl milk
- 2 tsp sugar
- Salt to taste
- About 6 dl all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp oil
- Oil for frying
- Garlic clove for finishing
- Salt for finishing

Instructions:

1. Dissolve the fresh yeast in lukewarm milk and add sugar. Mix well.
2. Combine salt with flour in a large bowl.
3. Knead the dough alternately with flour, water, and oil until it is soft and slightly sticky.
4. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour.
5. Shape the dough into balls and let them rise under a cloth for another 30 minutes.
6. Flatten the balls into discs.
7. Heat oil in a deep pan. Check the oil temperature by dropping a small piece of dough; if it rises to the surface and turns golden brown, the oil is ready.
8. Deep-fry the lángos in the hot oil until they are beautifully golden brown.
9. Remove the cooked lángos with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
10. Rub the hot lángos with a garlic clove and sprinkle with salt.
11. Serve immediately and enjoy!
