A traditional Finnish dish featuring crispy fried herring, perfect for a light meal. Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Serving Size: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g herring fillets
- 1 dl all-purpose flour
- 1 dl breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs
- 1 dl milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 dl oil for frying
- Fresh dill for garnish
- Lemon slices for serving
Instructions:
1. Rinse the herring fillets in cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
2. Prepare three plates: place the flour on one, whisk the eggs and milk together in another, and mix the breadcrumbs, salt, black pepper, and paprika in the third.
3. Dip the herring fillets first in the flour, then in the egg mixture, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
4. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
5. Fry the herring pieces for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
6. Remove the fried herring and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
7. Serve the herring warm, garnished with fresh dill and lemon slices.
