Spicy Chili Sauce

A flavorful and tangy sauce perfect for adding a kick to your dishes. Preparation Time: 40 minutes
Serving Size: Makes about 2 cups
Ingredients:
- 6 dried New Mexican red chilies
- 4 dried chiltepin chilies
- 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 tsp vegetable oil
- 1 cup ketchup
- 5 tbsp white wine vinegar
- 4 tsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp mustard powder
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp liquid smoke
Instructions:
1. Remove seeds from the chilies and soak them in hot water for about 20 minutes until softened.
2. Peel and finely chop the onion and garlic cloves.
3. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat and add the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until softened.
4. Add the soaked chilies to the pan and cook for a few minutes.
5. Transfer the mixture to a blender and add ketchup, white wine vinegar, brown sugar, mustard powder, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke. Blend until smooth.
6. Pour the sauce back into the pan and heat over low for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
7. Allow the sauce to cool and transfer it to a jar. Store in the refrigerator.
