Classic Spaghetti Aglio e Olio

Ingredients:
- 200g spaghetti
- 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt, to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions:
1. Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente.
2. While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
3. Add the sliced garlic to the skillet and sauté until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
4. If using, add the red pepper flakes to the skillet and stir for about 30 seconds.
5. Once the spaghetti is ready, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and then drain the pasta.
6. Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the garlic and olive oil. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water as needed to create a light sauce.
7. Season with salt to taste and garnish with fresh parsley.
8. Serve immediately, with grated Parmesan cheese on the side if desired.
