Description: This traditional Christmas dish is full of flavor and warmth. Cabbage casserole is a wonderful addition to the Christmas meal and is sure to please the whole family.
Preparation Time: 1.5 hours
Serving Size: 6-8 servings

Ingredients:

- 1 kg sauerkraut
- 400 g ground meat (beef or pork)
- 2 dl rice
- 1 onion
- 2 carrots
- 3 dl beef broth
- 2 tablespoons syrup
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 dl cream (optional)

Instructions:

1. Cook the rice according to package instructions and set aside to cool.
2. Finely chop the onion and grate the carrots.
3. Sauté the onion and carrots in a pan until softened.
4. Add the ground meat to the pan and brown it.
5. Stir in the sauerkraut, cooked rice, beef broth, syrup, salt, black pepper, and thyme. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
6. Pour the mixture into a baking dish and smooth the top.
7. If using cream, pour it over the casserole before baking.
8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake at 175°C (350°F) for about 1 hour.
9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is nicely browned.
