Sweet mini versions of traditional Finnish sweet buns, perfect for coffee tables. These little treats allow you to taste a variety of pastries. Preparation Time: 1 hour + rising time
Serving Size: 20 mini buns or 18 regular buns
Ingredients:
- For the Dough:
- 5 dl milk
- 2 dl sugar
- 1 tbsp cardamom
- A pinch of salt
- 1 egg
- 14-15 dl all-purpose flour
- 2 packets of dry yeast
- 200 g butter
- For the Filling:
- 4 dl heavy cream
- 1 dl powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- Strawberry jam or marzipan
Instructions:
1. Measure warm milk (about 42°C), sugar, cardamom, salt, and egg into a bowl and mix well.
2. Gradually add 12 dl of flour and the dry yeast, then start kneading the dough.
3. Incorporate softened butter and the remaining flour in batches, kneading vigorously for 5 minutes until the dough pulls away from the bowl sides.
4. Place the dough on a floured surface, cover with a cloth, and let it rise for 30 minutes.
5. Weigh out pieces of dough (25 g each), shape them into buns, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. You can also make some regular-sized buns (about 60 g).
6. Allow the buns to rise again under a cloth, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with pearl sugar.
7. Bake mini buns at 225°C for about 10 minutes and regular buns for 12-15 minutes.
8. Once cooled, slice the buns in half and fill with jam or marzipan and whipped cream.
