A delightful traditional Finnish pastry, Laskiaispullat are sweet buns filled with either almond paste or jam, perfect for celebrating Shrove Tuesday. Preparation Time: 2 hours (including rising time)
Serving Size: 12 buns
Ingredients:
- 100 g margarine
- 3 dl milk
- 25 g yeast
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 0.25 tsp salt
- 1 dl sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 7-8 dl flour (approximately, for dough)
- 1 egg (for brushing)
Instructions:
1. Melt the margarine in a saucepan and add the milk. Heat the mixture until warm (approximately 37°C).
2. Crumble the yeast into a bowl and pour the warm margarine-milk mixture over it. Stir until the yeast dissolves.
3. Add the cardamom, salt, sugar, and vanilla sugar. Mix well.
4. Gradually add flour until the dough is soft and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30-60 minutes.
6. Gently knead the dough and shape it into round buns.
7. Place the buns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
8. Brush the buns with beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 225°C for about 10-15 minutes, until golden brown.
9. Allow the buns to cool and fill them with your choice of filling, such as almond paste or jam.
