A delicious and traditional sweet bun filled with sweet jam, perfect for celebrating Shrove Tuesday.
Preparation Time: 1 hour + rising time
Serving Size: 12 buns
Ingredients:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 100 g sugar
- 2 tsp cardamom
- 1 tsp salt
- 25 g fresh yeast
- 200 ml milk
- 100 g butter
- 1 egg (for brushing)
- 200 g jam (e.g., raspberry or strawberry)
- Powdered sugar (for decoration)
Instructions:
1. Warm the milk until lukewarm and dissolve the fresh yeast in it.
2. In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cardamom, and salt.
3. Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and knead the dough until elastic.
4. Incorporate the softened butter and knead the dough for another 5-10 minutes.
5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30-40 minutes.
6. Once risen, knead the dough again and divide it into 12 pieces. Shape each piece into a round bun.
7. Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.
8. Brush the buns with the beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (390°F) for about 10-12 minutes, until golden brown.
9. Allow the buns to cool, then slice them open. Fill with jam and place the top half back on.
10. Dust the buns with powdered sugar before serving.
