A delicious matjess herring and apple salad that combines seafood with sweet apples, creating a flavorful and refreshing dish. Perfect for serving at a celebration or a weeknight dinner. Preparation time: 1 hour
Serving size: 4-6
Ingredients:
- 10 matjess herring fillets
- 3 apples
- 2 onions
- 5 slices of white bread
- 1 dl vinegar
- 250 g sugar
- 1 lemon (juiced)
- Dark bread
- Butter
For garnish:
- 2 red onions
- 2 green onions
Instructions:
1. Soak the herring fillets in cold water for a couple of hours and then dry them well.
2. Grind the herring fillets, peeled apples, and onions using a meat grinder or food processor.
3. Remove the crusts from the bread and crumble the slices.
4. Mix the ground ingredients in a bowl.
5. Add vinegar, sugar, and lemon juice to the mixture and stir well.
6. Spread the mixture onto slices of dark bread with butter.
7. Garnish with red onions and green onions before serving.
