A delicious Swedish herring dish combining the sweet flavors of matjessill with creamy dressing. Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Serving Size: 4-6 servings
Ingredients:
- 250 g matjessill (matjes herring) - 1 red onion
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 dl sour cream
- 1 dl thick yogurt
- 1 tbsp fresh dill
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of rye bread
Instructions:
1. Rinse the matjessill under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. 2. Cut the herring into strips and place in a bowl.
3. Peel and thinly slice the red onion into rings and add to the herring.
4. In a separate bowl, mix vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper until the sugar dissolves. Pour this mixture over the herring and onion.
5. Allow to marinate in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.
6. In another bowl, combine sour cream, thick yogurt, and chopped dill. Season with salt and pepper.
7. Serve the herring mixture on top of the rye bread and drizzle with the dill yogurt sauce.
