Delicious Chinese dumplings perfect for celebrations or everyday meals. These steamed buns are filled with a savory ground meat filling. Preparation Time: 2 hours (including rising time)
Serving Size: 30-50 buns
Ingredients
- Dough:- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon dry yeast
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- Filling:
- About 7 oz ground pork-beef mixture
- 1 carrot
- 1 onion
- 3 large garlic cloves
- About 1.5 inches fresh ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder (optional)
- 1-2 teaspoons chili flakes
- Dash of sriracha
- Black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes.2. Gradually add flour to the mixture while stirring. Knead the dough for about 15 minutes until it becomes elastic.
3. Brush the dough ball with sesame oil and let it rise covered for an hour.
4. Prepare the Filling: Peel and finely chop the onion, garlic, and ginger. Grate the carrot.
5. In a pan, sauté the onion, garlic, and ginger in oil for a moment. Add the ground meat and brown it.
6. Add the spices and soy sauce, mix well, and adjust the taste. Allow to cool.
7. Roll the risen dough into a sheet about 1/4 inch thick. Use a cutter to make circles.
8. Place a teaspoon of filling in the center of each circle, pinch the edges together and shape into a ball.
9. Let the dumplings rise for 40 minutes.
10. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Place parchment paper at the bottom of a steamer basket and arrange the dumplings inside. Steam for 5-6 minutes.
11. Serve the dumplings with a dipping sauce made of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes.
