Traditional Finnish Doughnuts (Munkit)

Serving Size: 12 doughnuts
Ingredients:
- 2 dl milk
- 1 dl sugar
- 25 g yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 1 egg
- 7-8 dl all-purpose flour
- 100 g butter, softened
- 1 l frying oil
- Sugar for dusting
Instructions:
1. Warm the milk to body temperature and dissolve the yeast and sugar in it.
2. Add the salt, cardamom, and egg. Mix well.
3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour until the dough is smooth and manageable.
4. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, then incorporate the softened butter until fully mixed.
5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
6. Roll out the dough to about 1 cm thick and cut out round doughnuts.
7. Allow the doughnuts to rise for another 30 minutes.
8. Heat the frying oil to 170-180 degrees Celsius.
9. Fry the doughnuts in the hot oil until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
10. Remove the fried doughnuts and place them on paper towels to drain, then dust with sugar while warm.
11. Serve and enjoy!
