A delicious and spicy fish snack that makes a perfect appetizer or a side for salads.
Preparation Time: 1-2 days (soaking and marinating)
Serving Size: 4-6
Ingredients:
- 500 g herring (cleaned and rinsed)
- 1 dl salt
- 1 dl water
- 1 dl vinegar
- 2-3 garlic cloves (crushed)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp dill (fresh or dried)
Instructions:
1. Clean and rinse the herring. Remove the backbone or use pre-filleted herring.
2. Mix the brine ingredients (salt, water, vinegar, garlic, sugar, black pepper, and dill) together and pour over the herring fillets.
3. Allow the herring to soak for a few hours or overnight until the fish turns white.
4. Drain and dry the herring fillets. You can remove the skin if desired.
5. Layer the herring fillets in a lidded container with the marinade. Let them marinate in the refrigerator for 1-2 days before serving.
