A delicious Czech cabbage pie made with sauerkraut and sweetened with syrup made from Pilsner beer. Rolled like a Swiss roll, it’s perfect for serving at gatherings.
Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 8-10 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g sauerkraut
- 2 dl Pilsner beer
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 dl water
- 300 g pie dough
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 dl chopped onion
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 egg (for brushing)
Instructions:
1. Heat the oil in a pan and add the chopped onion. Sauté the onion until soft.
2. Add the sauerkraut to the pan and mix well. Cook for a few minutes.
3. In a separate bowl, combine the Pilsner beer, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Pour this mixture over the cabbage mixture and let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
4. Prepare the pie dough and roll it out into a thin sheet.
5. Spread the cabbage mixture over the dough and roll it tightly into a log.
6. Place the roll on a baking sheet and brush the top with the beaten egg.
7. Bake at 200°C (392°F) for about 25-30 minutes, or until the pie is golden brown.
8. Let it cool slightly before serving.
