A traditional English dish combining a delicious roast and savory gravy, perfect for a weekend meal with family or friends. Preparation Time: 2 hours
Serving Size: 4-6
Ingredients:
- 1.5 kg beef roast
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 4-5 potatoes
- 3-4 carrots
- 1/2 kg broccoli
- 1 onion
- 2-3 garlic cloves
- 1 liter beef broth
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Fresh herbs (e.g., rosemary, thyme)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
2. Season the beef roast with salt and pepper. Heat the olive oil in a skillet and sear the roast on all sides until browned.
3. Transfer the roast to a roasting pan. Cut the potatoes and carrots into large chunks and add them to the pan. Add the onion and garlic as well.
4. Pour the beef broth into the pan and add fresh herbs.
5. Cover the pan with foil and roast in the oven for about 1.5 hours.
6. Remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
7. Prepare the gravy: Strain the broth into a saucepan, add the flour and Worcestershire sauce. Heat the mixture until it thickens.
8. Serve the sliced roast with vegetables and gravy.
