A delicious pickled herring dish with a tangy mustard-garlic sauce. Perfect as an appetizer or a light meal. Preparation Time: 2 hours (plus marinating time)
Serving Size: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g herring fillets
- Brine:
- 3 dl cold water
- 1½ dl vinegar
- ½ tbsp salt
- Mustard Sauce:
- 1½ tbsp mustard
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 3 tbsp oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the brine by mixing cold water, vinegar, and salt in a large bowl.
2. Add the herring fillets to the brine and let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
3. To make the mustard sauce, combine mustard, honey, crushed garlic, and oil in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
4. Remove the herring fillets from the brine and drain them well.
5. Serve the herring fillets with the mustard sauce. Garnish the dish with fresh herbs if desired.
