A delicious and budget-friendly dish that tastes even better the next day. Perfect for serving a larger group. Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 6-8 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g herring fillets - 4 potatoes
- 2 onions
- 2 dl rice
- 5 dl milk
- 2 dl cream
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp dill (fresh or dried)
- Butter (for frying)
Instructions:
1. Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds. Peel and chop the onions. 2. Sauté the onions in butter in a pan until they are soft.
3. Cook the rice according to package instructions and drain.
4. Grease a baking dish and layer it with a layer of potato slices, followed by herring fillets, onions, and cooked rice. Season the layers with salt, black pepper, and dill.
5. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of potatoes on top.
6. Mix the milk and cream together and pour the mixture over the dish.
7. Cover the dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 40-50 minutes.
8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is beautifully golden brown.
