A delicious and hearty dish that combines the flavors of herring, potatoes, and bacon, perfect for both everyday meals and special occasions.Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 4-6 servings
Ingredients:
- 7-9 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 15-20 herring fillets
- 7-9 slices of pork belly or American bacon
- 2 dl cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Butter (for greasing)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F).
2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
3. Layer the bottom of the dish with a layer of potato slices, seasoning with salt and pepper.
4. Add a layer of herring fillets and sprinkle with chopped onion.
5. Continue layering until all ingredients are used up, finishing with a layer of potatoes on top.
6. Cut the bacon into pieces and arrange them over the potatoes.
7. Pour the cream over the entire dish, ensuring all ingredients are moistened.
8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 30-40 minutes.
9. Remove the foil for the last 10 minutes to allow the top to brown nicely.
10. Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving.
