These slow-roasted onions are a delicious side dish that pairs especially well with meat. Preparation time is about 2 hours. Serves 4.Ingredients:
- 1 kg yellow onions- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2-3 sprigs fresh thyme
- 100 ml water
Instructions:
1. Peel the onions and cut them in half.2. Heat the olive oil in an oven-safe pot over medium heat.
3. Add the onions to the pot and sauté for about 5 minutes until they start to brown slightly.
4. Stir in the balsamic vinegar, salt, black pepper, thyme, and water.
5. Mix well and cover the pot with a lid or aluminum foil.
6. Transfer the pot to a preheated oven (160°C / 320°F) and roast the onions for about 1.5 hours until they are soft and caramelized.
7. Serve warm as a side dish with meat or any main course.
