A delicious and hearty creamy rice porridge, perfect for breakfast or dessert. Especially popular during the Christmas season, but delightful year-round.
Preparation Time: 2-3 hours
Serving Size: 6-8 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 cup short-grain rice
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 cups milk
- 1 ΒΌ cups heavy cream
- Sugar, to taste
- Cinnamon, to taste
- Butter, for serving
- Almonds (optional)
Instructions:
1. In a pot, bring water to a boil and add the rice. Gently stir with a wooden spoon to prevent breaking the grains.
2. Cook the rice until the water is absorbed. Gradually add the milk while stirring continuously. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring.
3. Add the cream and salt, and heat through.
4. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting and let it simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally.
5. Alternatively, you can use a cooler: place the pot on the stove, turn off the heat, and cover it with the cooler to let it steam. Stir occasionally.
6. Serve warm with butter, sugar, and cinnamon. Optionally, add a piece of almond to the porridge.
