Description: A delightful Finnish treat, these deep-fried doughnuts are fluffy and lightly spiced with cardamom, perfect for enjoying with coffee. Preparation Time: 2 hours (including rising time)
Serving Size: 12 servings
Ingredients:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 100 g sugar
- 50 g butter, melted
- 25 g fresh yeast
- 2 dl milk, warm
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- 1 l oil (for deep frying)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions:
1. Dissolve the yeast in warm milk and add sugar.
2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and cardamom.
3. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs to the dry ingredients.
4. Knead the dough until it is elastic and smooth.
5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
6. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1-2 cm.
7. Cut out circles from the dough and make a hole in the center of each.
8. Heat the oil in a pot to 175°C (350°F).
9. Fry the doughnuts in the oil until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
10. Transfer the doughnuts to a paper towel to drain excess oil.
11. Dust the warm doughnuts with powdered sugar before serving.
