A delicious slow-cooked reindeer stew perfect for a hearty meal, served with traditional mashed potatoes. Preparation Time: 2.5 - 3.5 hours
Serving Size: 4-6
Ingredients:
- Reindeer Stew:- 1 kg reindeer meat
- 3 tbsp fat
- 2 dl water
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- Mashed Potatoes:
- 700 g peeled small potatoes
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2-3 onions
- 2 dl milk
- 1-2 tsp salt
Instructions:
1. Melt the fat in a pot over medium heat.2. Add the reindeer meat in small batches and brown it.
3. Once all the meat is browned, add the water and salt.
4. Lower the heat and simmer covered for 10-30 minutes, or transfer the pot to the oven and simmer at 125 degrees Celsius for about 2-3 hours.
5. Prepare the mashed potatoes: Boil the peeled potatoes in salted water.
6. Sauté the chopped onions in butter until tender. Add the milk and bring to a boil.
7. Mash the boiled potatoes and mix in the onion milk, stirring. Season with salt.
8. Serve the reindeer stew over the mashed potatoes, creating a well in the center for the stew.
