A classic Finnish dish where delicious sautéed reindeer meets velvety mashed potatoes. Preparation time: 1 hour
Serving size: 4
Ingredients:
- 1 dl beef broth cube
- Oil
- 8 starchy potatoes
- Warm milk
- Water
- Allspice (optional)
- Butter or margarine
- Salt
- White pepper
Instructions:
1. Heat a heavy-bottomed pot and add a splash of oil.
2. Add the reindeer meat to the pot and brown it well.
3. Pour enough water into the pot to cover the meat. Add the beef broth cube and allspice if using.
4. Allow the reindeer meat to simmer on low heat for about 30-40 minutes until tender.
5. Peel and chop the potatoes. Boil them in unsalted water until soft.
6. Drain the potatoes and mash them with warm milk. Stir in butter or margarine, salt, and white pepper to taste.
7. Serve the sautéed reindeer with the mashed potatoes.
