Description: This traditional rye bread is hearty and full of flavor, perfect for sandwiches or enjoying with butter.
Ingredients:
- 1 kg rye flour
- 500 g wheat flour
- 1 liter water
- 25 g salt
- 25 g fresh yeast or 10 g dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons syrup or honey (optional)
Instructions:
1. Dissolve the yeast in warm water.
2. Add salt and syrup or honey if using.
3. Mix the rye and wheat flours together in a large mixing bowl.
4. Pour the liquid mixture into the flours and stir until the dough is smooth.
5. Knead the dough for about 10-15 minutes until it is elastic.
6. Cover the mixing bowl with a cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
7. Divide the dough into six portions and shape into loaves.
8. Place the loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 30-60 minutes.
9. Preheat the oven to 225°C (437°F).
10. Bake the loaves in the oven for about 25-30 minutes, until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
11. Allow the loaves to cool on a wire rack before serving.
