This traditional Finnish meat pie is filled with a savory mixture of ground meat and mushrooms, enveloped in a buttery pastry. Perfect for a hearty meal or snack!
Ingredients:
- 500 g ground beef
- 200 g mushrooms (e.g., button mushrooms)
- 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 dl cream
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 3 dl all-purpose flour
- 150 g butter
- 1 dl quark
- 1 egg (for brushing)
Instructions:
1. Peel and finely chop the onion and garlic. Sauté them in a pan with a little oil until soft.
2. Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned. Stir in the chopped mushrooms and cook for a few more minutes.
3. Pour in the cream and add the soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and thyme. Let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
4. Prepare the dough: Mix the flour and butter until crumbly. Add the quark and knead the dough until smooth.
5. Divide the dough into two parts and roll them out into thin sheets. Cut circles from the sheets.
6. Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each circle and fold the edges together. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
7. Bake the meat pies in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
8. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
