This delicious apple chutney combines sweetness, spiciness, and a hint of heat. It's the perfect accompaniment for meats, cheeses, or even sandwiches. Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: About 1 liter
Ingredients:
- 1 liter peeled and diced apples
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp allspice
- 250 ml brown sugar
- 1 tsp curry powder
- 2 tbsp grated ginger
- 1 chopped onion
- 200 ml raisins
- 1.5 tbsp mustard seeds
- 1 finely chopped red chili, seeds and membrane removed
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 0.5 tsp cinnamon
- 100 ml vinegar (e.g., apple cider vinegar)
Instructions:
1. Place all ingredients in a large pot.
2. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it begins to boil.
3. Reduce the heat and let the chutney simmer gently for about 40-50 minutes, stirring occasionally until the mixture thickens.
4. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed with salt or sugar.
5. Pour the hot chutney into cleaned jars and seal tightly.
6. Allow to cool to room temperature before storing.
