A hearty Finnish rye bread that’s perfect for sandwiches or as a side with soup. Preparation Time: 2 hours
Serving Size: 10 slices
Ingredients:
- 500 g rye flour
- 300 ml water
- 10 g salt
- 10 g dry yeast
- 1 tbsp honey or syrup (optional)
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, mix the rye flour, salt, and dry yeast.
2. If using, add the honey or syrup to the mixture.
3. Pour in the water and stir until a smooth dough forms.
4. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is elastic.
5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
6. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a baking pan lined with parchment paper.
7. Allow the loaf to rise again for about 30 minutes.
8. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
9. Let the bread cool before slicing, and enjoy!
