A delicious and hearty bread, perfect for breakfast or a snack. Preparation time is about 2 hours. Serves 8.
Ingredients:
- 250 ml rye flour
- 200 ml water
- 1-1½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp syrup
- 300 ml wheat flour or bread flour
- 1-2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp dry yeast
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, mix the water, rye flour, and dry yeast. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes.
2. Add the salt, syrup, wheat flour, and oil to the bowl. Mix well until the dough is smooth.
3. Knead the dough lightly for about 10 minutes until it is elastic.
4. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
5. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a bread pan. Allow it to rise for another 30 minutes.
6. Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F).
7. Bake the bread in the oven for about 30-35 minutes, until the top is beautifully golden brown.
8. Let the bread cool on a rack before slicing.
