A rich and flavorful tomato sauce perfect for pasta or risotto.
Preparation Time: 45 minutes
Serving Size: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 can Mutti crushed tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 small onion
- 0.6 dl olive oil
- 0.5 tsp sugar
- 2 dl water
- 0.5 dl red wine
- Zest of 1 orange
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (basil or thyme)
Instructions:
1. Peel and chop the onion and garlic cloves.
2. Sauté the onion and garlic in olive oil over low heat for about 10 minutes.
3. Add sugar and half of the crushed tomatoes. Let it simmer for 10 minutes.
4. Stir in the remaining crushed tomatoes and water. Let it simmer gently for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5. Add red wine and a few slices of orange zest. Stir until the sauce thickens slightly.
6. Season with salt, black pepper, and your choice of herbs.
7. Remove the sauce from heat and mix in about 0.5 dl of extra virgin olive oil.
8. Mix well and serve with risotto or enjoy on its own.
