A rich and flavorful tomato sauce perfect for pasta, pizza, or even meat and fish. Preparation Time: 40 minutes
Serving Size: 4-6 servings
Ingredients
- 1 can Mutti crushed tomatoes - 1 onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 0.5 dl olive oil
- 0.5 tsp sugar
- 1 orange zest (optional)
- 0.5 dl red wine (optional)
- 2 dl water
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Chop the onion and garlic into small cubes. 2. Sauté the onion in olive oil over medium heat for about 10 minutes until soft and sweet.
3. Add sugar and half of the crushed tomatoes. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
4. Add the remaining crushed tomatoes and water. Stir and allow to simmer on low heat.
5. If using, add the red wine and stir. Let the sauce cook until thickened to your liking.
6. Season with salt and black pepper. Add orange zest for flavor (do not consume the zest).
7. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the remaining olive oil. Let the sauce rest for a moment.
