Deliciously soft and flavorful, these Finnish butter eye buns are perfect for coffee breaks or as a snack. Preparation Time: 1 hour + rising
Serving Size: About 12 buns
Ingredients:
- 5 dl milk
- 50 g yeast
- 1-2 tsp salt
- 2 dl sugar
- 1 tbsp cardamom
- 1 egg
- About 12 dl all-purpose flour
- 100 g butter (softened)
- 1 dl sugar (for filling)
- 1 dl butter (for filling)
Instructions:
1. Warm the milk to body temperature and dissolve the yeast in it.
2. Add salt, sugar, cardamom, and the egg. Mix well.
3. Gradually add flour until the dough is smooth and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
4. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, adding the softened butter towards the end of kneading.
5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30-45 minutes.
6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and cut it into squares. Place a mixture of sugar and butter in the center of each square.
7. Fold the squares into triangles and pinch the edges together.
8. Let the buns rise for another 20 minutes.
9. Bake at 200°C (about 400°F) for 10-12 minutes, until the buns are beautifully golden brown.
10. Allow to cool slightly before enjoying.
