A delightful traditional Finnish pastry filled with almond paste, perfect for enjoying during winter with a warm drink.
Preparation Time: 2 hours (includes rising time)
Serving Size: 12 buns
Ingredients:
- 2.5 dl milk
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 1 dl sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 1 egg
- 75 g butter
- 7-8 dl all-purpose flour
- 200 g almond paste
- 2 dl whipped cream
Instructions:
1. Warm the milk until it is lukewarm and dissolve the dry yeast in it.
2. Add sugar, salt, cardamom, and egg. Mix well.
3. Melt the butter and add it to the dough mixture.
4. Gradually add the all-purpose flour and knead the dough until it is elastic and pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
5. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
6. Divide the dough into 12 pieces and shape them into buns.
7. Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
8. Bake the buns in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 10-12 minutes until they are golden brown.
9. Allow the buns to cool.
10. Cut the top off each bun and fill them with almond paste and whipped cream, then replace the top.
