Ingredients:
- 2.2 lbs (1 kg) potatoes
- 1.3 cups (300 ml) cream
- 0.8 cups (200 ml) milk
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 3.5 oz (100 g) grated cheese (e.g., Emmental or Cheddar)
- 1 tbsp butter
Instructions:
1. Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds.
2. Rinse the slices in cold water and drain well.
3. Peel and crush the garlic cloves.
4. In a saucepan, heat the cream and milk. Add the crushed garlic, salt, and pepper. Warm the mixture, but do not let it boil.
5. Grease a baking dish with butter and layer the potato slices in the dish.
6. Pour the cream and milk mixture over the potatoes, ensuring they are well covered.
7. Sprinkle the grated cheese on top of the potatoes.
8. Cover the dish with foil and bake at 356°F (180°C) for about 45 minutes.
9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the top is beautifully golden brown.
10. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
