A traditional Finnish liver casserole with rice, perfect for a comforting meal.
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 4-6 servings
Ingredients:
- 400 g liver (beef or pork)
- 2 dl rice
- 1 l water
- 2 onions
- 2 dl cream
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp syrup
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- Butter (for greasing)
Instructions:
1. Cook the rice in water according to package instructions.
2. Peel and chop the onions, then sauté them in butter until soft.
3. Add the chopped liver to the pan and cook until fully done.
4. In a bowl, combine the cooked rice, liver-onion mixture, cream, eggs, syrup, and spices.
5. Grease a baking dish with butter and pour the mixture into it.
6. Bake in a preheated oven at 175°C (350°F) for about 1 hour, or until the top is beautifully browned.
7. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or cold.
