A fragrant Christmas bread that adds a delicious touch to your holiday table, infused with spices and syrup for warmth and flavor. This traditional buttermilk loaf is easy to make.

Serving Size: 2 loaves

Ingredients:

- 5 dl buttermilk
- 1 dl syrup
- 0.5 tbsp caraway seeds
- 0.5 tbsp fennel seeds
- 0.5 tbsp ground orange peel
- 25 g yeast
- 0.5 dl water
- 0.5 tbsp salt
- 6 dl rye flour
- About 6 dl wheat flour
For brushing:
- 0.5 dl warm water
- 0.5 tbsp syrup

Instructions:

1. Let the buttermilk warm to room temperature.
2. Boil the syrup and spices, then let it cool.
3. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water.
4. Combine the room temperature buttermilk, syrup mixture, yeast, and salt.
5. Add the flours and knead into a soft dough.
6. Leave the dough to rise covered for about an hour.
7. Shape the dough into two loaves and place them in greased baking pans.
8. Allow the loaves to rise well.
9. Bake the loaves at 200°C (392°F) for about 50 minutes.
10. Brush the loaves a couple of times towards the end of baking with the syrup water.
