A comforting and delicious cabbage casserole that brings back childhood memories. This version is almost as good as Grandma's and warms the heart. Preparation Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Serving Size: 4-6 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 kg cabbage - 400 g ground beef or pork
- 2 dl rice
- 1 large onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- 2 dl crushed tomatoes
- 4 dl beef broth or water
- 2 tbsp butter or oil
Instructions:
1. Peel and chop the onion and garlic. Heat the butter or oil in a large pot and sauté the onions until translucent.2. Add the ground meat and cook until browned. Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika.
3. Rinse the rice and add it to the pot with the meat mixture. Stir well.
4. Add the crushed tomatoes and beef broth (or water). Let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
5. Meanwhile, boil the cabbage in salted water for about 5-10 minutes until softened. Drain and chop the cabbage.
6. Grease a baking dish and layer the bottom with cabbage. Add a layer of the meat and rice mixture, then another layer of cabbage. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used.
7. Cover the dish with foil and bake at 175°C (350°F) for about 1 hour.
8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is beautifully browned.
