A hearty onion pie perfect for a hockey game snack. Its delicious flavor comes from the addition of beer. You can prepare it in advance and reheat before serving. Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 8–10 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 package of pre-made pie crust - 5–6 large onions
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 200 ml of cream
- 200 ml of beer
- 3 eggs
- 200 ml of grated cheese (e.g., Emmental or Cheddar)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions:
1. Peel and slice the onions into thin rings. 2. Heat the butter in a frying pan and add the onions. Sauté the onions over low heat for about 15 minutes until they are soft and golden brown.
3. Roll out the pie crust and line a pie dish with it. Prick the bottom with a fork.
4. In a bowl, mix the cream, beer, eggs, salt, and pepper. Add the sautéed onions and grated cheese. Mix well.
5. Pour the mixture over the pie crust.
6. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 30–40 minutes until the pie is beautifully golden brown.
7. Allow to cool for a moment before serving. You can garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
