Paraisten Gingerbread Cookies

Preparation Time: 2 hours (plus chilling time) Serving Size: Approximately 30 cookies
Ingredients:
- 250 g butter
- 2 dl sugar
- 1 dl syrup
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp ginger
- 1 tbsp cloves
- 1 tbsp ground cardamom
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 8 dl all-purpose flour
Instructions:
1. In a saucepan, melt the butter and add the sugar and syrup. Heat over low heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.
2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the spices, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the mixture and knead until smooth.
4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
5. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).
6. Roll out the dough to about 0.5 cm thick and cut into desired shapes.
7. Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven for about 8-10 minutes, until they are beautifully brown.
8. Allow the gingerbread cookies to cool before decorating.
