Tarte Tatin
recipe
A classic French dessert featuring caramelized apples hidden beneath a flaky pastry crust. Perfect for brunch or a sweet ending to any meal. Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 6-8 servings
Ingredients:
- 6-8 large apples (e.g., Granny Smith)
- 150 g sugar
- 100 g butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
- 1 ready-made pastry dough (e.g., puff pastry)
- A pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Peel and slice the apples.
2. In a skillet, melt the butter and sugar over medium heat until it turns into a light caramel.
3. Add the apple slices to the caramel and gently stir. Cook the apples for about 10 minutes until they are soft.
4. If desired, sprinkle cinnamon over the apples.
5. Remove the skillet from the heat and arrange the apples evenly over the caramel.
6. Cover the apples with the pastry dough, tucking the edges over the sides of the skillet.
7. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 25-30 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.
8. Remove the tart from the oven and let it cool for a moment. Carefully invert onto a serving plate so that the apples are displayed on top.
