Traditional Finnish carnival doughnuts that evoke childhood memories of May Day celebrations. These quick doughnuts are delicious and easy to prepare. Preparation time: 30 minutes. Serving size: Makes about 10 doughnuts. Ingredients:
- 2 dl milk - 25 g fresh yeast
- 1 dl sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1 egg
- 5 dl wheat flour
- 1 dl rapeseed oil (for frying)
- Powdered sugar (for decoration)
Instructions:
1. Warm the milk until it's lukewarm and dissolve the fresh yeast in it. 2. Add the sugar, salt, cardamom, vanilla sugar, and egg. Mix well.
3. Gradually add the wheat flour and knead the dough until smooth.
4. Let the dough rise under a cloth for about 15-20 minutes.
5. Heat the rapeseed oil in a frying pan.
6. Take small pieces of dough and shape them into irregular doughnuts.
7. Fry the doughnuts in hot oil until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
8. Remove the fried doughnuts and place them on paper towels to cool.
9. Dust the cooled doughnuts with powdered sugar before serving.
