A warm, spiced wine perfect for the holiday season.
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Serving Size: 6 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 liter red wine
- 200 ml water
- 200 g sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 5-6 cloves
- 2-3 star anise
- 1 orange (sliced)
- 1 lemon (sliced)
- 100 ml rum or cognac (optional)
Instructions:
1. In a pot, combine the red wine, water, and sugar. Heat over low heat until the sugar dissolves.
2. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and the sliced orange and lemon.
3. Let the mixture simmer gently for about 15-20 minutes. Do not boil.
4. If using, add the rum or cognac just before serving.
5. Strain the glögi into a serving jug and serve hot with your choice of accompaniments, such as nuts or dried fruits.
