Ingredients:

- 2 large red onions
- 1 cup white wine vinegar
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper (ground)
- 1 bay leaf
- 2-3 whole cloves (optional)

Instructions:

1. Peel the red onions and slice them thinly.
2. Place the slices in a bowl.
3. In a saucepan, heat the white wine vinegar, water, sugar, salt, black pepper, bay leaf, and cloves. Bring to a boil until the sugar and salt dissolve.
4. Pour the hot marinade over the red onion slices in the bowl.
5. Let it cool at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes.
6. Serve immediately or transfer to the refrigerator to marinate for at least an hour before use.
