Delicious and hearty, these Finnish cabbage rolls are a perfect option for a cozy dinner.
Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 4-6 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 500 g ground beef or pork
- 1 dl rice
- 1 onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 dl crushed tomatoes
- 1 dl water
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions:
1. Cook the rice according to package instructions and let it cool.
2. Boil the cabbage leaves in salted water for about 5 minutes until softened. Remove the leaves and let them cool.
3. Sauté the chopped onion and garlic in oil. Add the ground meat and cook until browned.
4. In a bowl, mix the meat mixture with rice, egg, salt, pepper, and thyme.
5. Take one cabbage leaf and place 1-2 tablespoons of filling on it. Fold the sides in and roll tightly.
6. Place the rolls in a baking dish. Mix the crushed tomatoes and water, and pour over the rolls.
7. Cover the dish with foil and bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 40 minutes.
8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes for a nice color on top.
