A delicious cream cheese filled wreath, perfect for an Easter dessert or as a gift. Preparation Time: 2 hours
Serving Size: 12-15 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 cup milk
- 25 g fresh yeast
- 2 eggs (reserve some for brushing)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp mineral salt
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 5-6 cups all-purpose flour
- 100 g soft butter
Filling:
- 250 g cream cheese
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup raisins (optional)
Glaze:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- Water (for a smooth consistency)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles or decorative toppings
Instructions:
1. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm milk.
2. In a bowl, crack the eggs and reserve some for brushing. Add most of the eggs to the milk mixture along with sugar, mineral salt, and cardamom.
3. Gradually incorporate the flour into the mixture and add the soft butter towards the end. Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic.
4. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise until doubled in size.
5. Punch down the risen dough on a floured surface to release air bubbles.
6. Roll the dough into a rectangle (about 8 x 24 inches).
7. Mix the filling ingredients and spread the mixture over the rolled dough.
8. Roll the dough tightly into a log and transfer it to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
9. Shape the log into a circular wreath and cut slits along the sides. Fold the cut sections alternately outward and inward.
10. Form the wreath into an even circle and let it rise, covered with a cloth, for about 30 minutes.
11. Brush the risen wreath with the reserved egg and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 minutes. Allow to cool.
12. Mix powdered sugar with water until smooth. Color the glaze if desired.
13. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled wreath and sprinkle with toppings.
