A warm and aromatic spiced red wine perfect for holiday gatherings. Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Serving Size: 4-6 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 bottle of red wine
- 2 cups of water
- 2-3 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3-4 cloves
- 2-3 star anise
- 1 orange (sliced)
- 1 lemon (sliced)
- 1 cup of rum or brandy (optional)
Instructions:
1. Pour the red wine and water into a saucepan.
2. Add sugar and stir until dissolved.
3. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and the sliced orange and lemon.
4. Heat the mixture over low heat, being careful not to let it boil.
5. Allow the spices to steep in the wine for about 15-20 minutes.
6. If desired, add rum or brandy just before serving.
7. Strain the beverage into glasses and serve warm, ideally by candlelight.
