A classic Nordic bread with a tangy-sweet flavor, perfect for festive occasions. Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 1 loaf
Ingredients:
- 5 dl piimä (buttermilk)
- 1 dl siirappi (syrup)
- 2 dl ruisjauhoja (rye flour)
- 2 dl vehnäjauhoja (wheat flour)
- 1 dl sokeria (sugar)
- 1 tsp suolaa (salt)
- 1 tsp soodaa (baking soda)
- 1 tsp kanelia (cinnamon)
- 1 tsp kuminaa (cumin, optional)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).
2. In a bowl, mix the piimä and siirappi together.
3. Gradually add the dry ingredients (rye flour, wheat flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and spices) to the mixture.
4. Stir the dough until smooth, avoiding overmixing.
5. Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan.
6. Bake in the oven for about 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
7. Allow to cool before slicing.
