Pastel de Nata

A delicious Portuguese pastry featuring a creamy filling and a crispy crust, perfect for dessert during Christmas or any celebration. Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 12 pastries
Ingredients:
- 250 g butter
- 250 g flour
- 1 dl water
- 1 dl milk
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 dl sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- A pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Melt the butter and mix it with the flour until the mixture resembles crumbs.
2. Add the water and knead the dough until smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
3. Roll out the dough into a thin sheet and cut it into circles to fit a muffin tin.
4. Prepare the filling: Heat the milk in a saucepan. In a separate bowl, combine the egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
5. Gradually add the heated milk to the egg mixture, stirring well.
6. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and heat over low heat until it thickens. Do not boil.
7. Pour the filling into the dough cups and bake at 220°C (428°F) for about 15-20 minutes, until the tops are beautifully golden.
8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
