A traditional Portuguese pastry with a flaky crust and creamy vanilla filling. Perfect for coffee breaks!
Preparation Time: 1 hour
Serving Size: 12 pastries
Ingredients:
- 250 g butter
- 375 g puff pastry
- 200 ml heavy cream
- 200 ml milk
- 150 g sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
Instructions:
1. Melt the butter and roll out the puff pastry into a thin sheet. Cut circles from the pastry and place them into a muffin tin.
2. In a saucepan, combine the cream, milk, sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, vanilla sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens.
3. Pour the filling into the pastry shells, leaving some space at the edges.
4. Bake the pastries at 220°C (428°F) for about 15-20 minutes or until the tops are beautifully golden.
5. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
