Description: A delightful Finnish apple and quark pie, perfect for dessert or a sweet snack. Preparation Time: 1 hour (plus 30 minutes resting time)
Serving Size: Serves 8
Ingredients:
- 1 dl milk
- 1/4 piece of yeast
- 1 tsp ground cardamom
- A pinch of salt
- 3/4 dl sugar
- 4 dl all-purpose flour
- 75 g butter, softened
- 500 g quark (or cottage cheese)
- 2-3 apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
Instructions:
1. Warm the milk until it is lukewarm and dissolve the yeast in it.
2. Add cardamom, salt, sugar, and flour. Knead the dough until smooth.
3. Incorporate the softened butter and knead until the dough is elastic. Let it rest under a cloth for about 30 minutes.
4. Grease a pie dish and roll out the dough into a flat sheet. Press the dough into the dish.
5. In a bowl, mix the quark, egg, and vanilla sugar.
6. Peel and slice the apples, then arrange them over the dough.
7. Pour the quark mixture over the apples.
8. Bake the pie at 175°C (350°F) for about 40-45 minutes, or until the top is beautifully golden brown.
9. Allow to cool before serving.
